Science Communication Agency Berlin – Research Transfer, Knowledge Transfer & Visual Research Communication

Science communication has to answer two questions: Why is this interesting? And what does it mean for me?

Ellery Studio develops science communication for universities, institutes, foundations and research consortia. We translate research into formats that people want to understand, use and share.

What a good science communication agency has to deliver

Findings need a form that works outside the expert world

How we bring momentum to science communication as a leading infographics agency

Research transfer and dissemination

Results that reach further than the project report

Good research communication starts long before the final publication. We develop transfer concepts, dissemination strategies and visual formats for funders, expert audiences, practice partners and public audiences. In projects like the energy-transition atlas Strom Netz Fluss, the CASA science comics, or our work for the BAuA, research becomes material that actually gets read and reused.
Visual science communication

Infographics, comics and explainer formats for complex content

Research often needs an image before it can be understood. We develop infographics, data visualisations, science comics, explainer videos and digital formats for topics with a high level of technical density. Our science comics for the CASA Cluster of Excellence show how research can take a form that stays technically accurate and still gets picked up voluntarily.
Transdisciplinary research

A shared language for science and practice

In research consortia, disciplines, practice partners and funding logics all meet at once. Here, communication also has to work internally. We help clarify terminology, make interim results visible and create shared orientation. In projects like the Decarbonisation of Industry cluster or in the Indeland region, we combine foresight, participation and visual condensation.
Citizen science and participation

Research in dialogue with society

Participation starts with the question of what research actually wants to communicate. We develop workshops, dialogue formats and materials for projects that involve citizens, practitioner knowledge or stakeholders. In the Wissenschaftsjahr (Science Year), on biodiversity topics, in the Engage consortium project, or in our collaboration with the Natural History Museum Berlin on bioeconomy and speculative design, research becomes a shared field of work.
Communication labs and new formats

Science communication as a space to experiment

Since 2020, we've been supporting the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's Com. There, science communicators, journalists and researchers meet and develop new forms of knowledge transfer. Labs like this are valuable because they don't treat communication as a finished product. They create space for testing, learning and rethinking.
Research funding and consortium communication

Making projects understandable before results are in

Research consortia need to show early on why their work matters. For funding applications, project launches, advisory boards, websites or stakeholder communication, you need clear narratives and good material. We help explain complex projects so that funders, partners and practice actors understand faster what's at stake.
Early-career researchers and capacity building

New ways of working for research teams

Researchers today need more than good results. They need to explain their work, think visually and know how to engage audiences. We develop seminars, learning formats and workshops on storytelling, infographics, visual condensation and science communication. When PhD programmes or research teams come to us, we work directly on their own topics.

For funded projects, research findings and initiatives that need to reach audiences outside their own expert field.

Results communication and knowledge transfer

For studies, project reports, research findings and transfer materials.

Infographics and data visualisation

For complex research, data, processes and cause-and-effect relationships.

Science comics and graphic novels

For research topics that need to be told visually, as a story.

Citizen science and participation

For workshops, real-world labs, co-creation and multi-stakeholder processes.

Strategic communication for research consortia

For narratives, communication strategies and materials in transdisciplinary projects.

Seminars and capacity building

For scientists, communication teams and project consortia.

Exhibitions and spatial knowledge formats

For gallery walks, installations, science outreach and walk-through communication spaces.

Science Communication Team

Experts in storytelling and making knowledge exciting

Our team knows research from funded projects, consortia and transdisciplinary processes. We bring together science, editorial, design and illustration to understand demanding content and translate it into formats that work.
