Industry focus: Energy Industry Consulting & Communication

Finally, an agency you don't have to explain the energy transition to

Ellery Studio has supported energy industry players since 2014 with strategic communications, information design, participation formats, and futures work. In energy industry consulting, we know the language of grid operators, energy companies, and utilities, and we know how to explain complex energy systems, power supply, and sector coupling to the right audiences.

Where we come in

Challenges in the energy industry & energy transition communication

If you want to communicate the energy transition, you first have to understand it. That's our core competence.
How we work

Between the energy system, public acceptance, and futures work

Energy knowledge for decisions

How lead studies, data, and discussion papers become a basis for decisions

The knowledge is there. It just seems nobody read the memo. To make the energy transition's key messages stand out from the flood of information, we translate lead studies, position papers, energy data, and expert debates into formats that actually get used. Fact sheets for Agora Verkehrswende, explainer videos for BDEW, visual fact formats for dena, and utility communications for local municipal utilities. These are just a few examples of our translation work between the energy industry and new audiences.
Stakeholder processes in the energy transition

When energy companies, grid operators, and local players have to find a common direction

30 organizations at the table, each with its own agenda, its own language, its own logic. And yet you need a shared direction. We design dialogue spaces for exactly these situations: gallery walks, participatory trialogues, and co-creative modeling processes that translate different perspectives into shared images. In the context of WindNODE, this led to formats like "Let’s Talk About Flex" and "Strom Netz Fluss" (Power, Grid, Flow), which made flexibility, the electricity market, and system transformation accessible to many players.
Regional energy futures

Scenarios for structural change, energy supply, and new energy systems

What comes after coal? Questions like this can't be answered at a desk. They need the people on the ground: local government, agriculture, students, business, and civil society. In projects like Indeland, we facilitate participatory scenario processes with PESTEL analyses, focus groups, and future workshops. We condense the results into narrative scenarios that help regions see structural change not just as a loss, but as a future they can shape.
Internal transformation in energy organizations

Change from within: multipliers, capacity building, and knowledge transfer

Even the most effective communication is useless if it leaves with the agency. That's why we build things that last: ambassador programs, training in data visualization and storytelling, style guides as a scalable communication architecture. At dena, this produced a lasting content infrastructure; at E.ON, a network of foresight ambassadors; at 50Hertz, a change story for the internal realignment of Operational Asset Management.
